Wrestlemania is Professional Wrestling’s biggest show every year, although sometimes the build isn’t great, the matches and moments on the show are mainly memorable. But this year, excitement for the show is very high.
It’s almost time for Wrestlemania 39!
Every year this show is sold as the biggest event in wrestling and it absolutely is. The build to the event isn’t always great, but when it gets to the actual show, it is exciting, fun and sometimes emotional to watch.
Lots of people that used to be wrestling fans, usually come back to the product just to watch Wrestlemania. For me personally, it has felt like WWE have recently put too much attention on the actual show rather than the build-up.
That’s fine, but the problem with this is that it doesn’t reward the fans that watch the product week in and week out. This year’s build is different though, WWE have put together a fantastic match card that has something for everyone, while also telling great stories with most of these matches.
This includes John Cena vs Austin Theory, Becky, Trish and Lita vs Damage Ctrl and Rhea Ripley vs Charlotte Flair.
These are just a few matches on the show that have great stories going into Wrestlemania.
Can Austin Theory finally live up to his potential by beating one of the greatest of all time in John Cena?
How will Becky’s long rivalry with Damage Ctrl end and can Rhea finally become the star she is destined to be by beating Charlotte Flair?
There are so many more great stories going into this show, but the main two is The Bloodline and The Mysterio Family Saga. These are the two stories I’m going to mainly talk about in this article.
The Mysterio Family Saga

This has been one of the most emotional stories we have gotten in WWE in recent years. I wasn’t sure about the idea of Dominik turning on his dad, Rey. But the company have done a really good job with this storyline.
They didn’t just leave the story to be told on WWE TV, instead they allowed the story to continue on social media with clips of Dom interrupting the Mysterio family Thanksgiving dinner and Rey getting his son arrested for ruining their Christmas dinner as well.
It’s clear that Dominik wants to succeed in this business, but he wasn’t working as a face, but as a heel with The Judgement Day he has played his role very well. Now, he actually has the fans invested in him, he’s one of the most hated heels on the roster.
I’ve seen some fans talk about how Dominik should retire his dad at Wrestlemania, I wasn’t sure about that idea at first but after thinking about it, that isn’t a bad way for Rey to hang up his boots. I think after the match, The Judgement Day could come and congratulate Dom but they also start beating up Rey, but then Dominik stops Finn and Damian, leading to the break up of the faction. Rey and Dominik reunite and the next night on RAW, Rey gives his retirement speech, whilst giving Dom a mask.
I think that would be a heart-warming way to finish this story, I have enjoyed the Judgement Day faction but honestly, it’s better if they break up. Dominik can go on his own, maybe even win the King of the Ring tournament and Rhea can also be a dominant champion on her own.
Everyone has played their roles very well in this story and WWE also did a great job of building up to the moment where Rey finally accepted Dominik’s Wrestlemania challenge.
The Bloodline Story

This storyline has been perfection from the start and it is finally going to come to an end at Wrestlemania with two massive matches, KO and Sami vs The Usos and Roman Reigns vs Cody Rhodes.
There are so many layers to this story that it would take a while to go through them all in this article.
Roman Reigns is incredible, this title reign has been the best in recent years. He is the biggest star in wrestling, and he deserves this historic title run to be ended by a story like this. You could make a case for Drew McIntyre ending his reign at Clash at the Castle, Kevin Owens at the Royal Rumble or Sami Zayn in Montreal. But this is the right way to do it and Cody Rhodes is the right person to do it.
The comeback story for Cody at the Royal Rumble was great and now this rivalry with Roman is even better. Some fans are saying that WWE should’ve had them fight in the build up to their match but honestly, they don’t need to. Save the physicality for the match at Wrestlemania and instead, tell Cody’s story. How he needs to win the WWE Title for his family, how he needs to finish his story and become the first person in his family to be WWE World Champion. I love the advertising WWE are doing for this match. Cody’s story vs Roman’s legacy.
Now onto the tag team match, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn vs The Usos.
What a rollercoaster of emotions we’ve been on to get to this match. Sami finally not being able to take Roman’s orders anymore and hitting him in the back with a chair, which is a fantastic call back to how Seth Rollins turned on The Shield. Then Jimmy Uso being the first one to hit Sami after always having his back, then Jey refusing to hit Sami and turning his back on his family, only to turn on him and reunite with his brother.
WWE making it obvious that Jey only turned on Sami for his brother and not for Roman is another fantastic touch. The segment on RAW where Jey could barely look Roman in the eyes and when Reigns said “I love you”, but Jey walked away without saying it back was so well done.
Slowly building to Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn reuniting was awesome and really well done. Of course KO wasn’t going to forgive Sami straight away and the moment where they both hugged and finally came back together to help take down The Bloodline was another memorable moment in this storyline.
There is so much more I could mention about this storyline, I haven’t even talked about the War Games match. This is probably the best story in wrestling I’ve seen since being a wrestling fan. Some fans might have a different opinion which is respectable considering they might have watched wrestling for longer than I have. But in my 12 years of being a wrestling fan, there hasn’t quite been a storyline like this and I’m so excited to see what happens at Wrestlemania.
Overall Thoughts
Those are just a couple of storylines that have made the build to this year’s Wrestlemania so emotional, exciting and enjoyable. But I haven’t even talked about Edge vs Finn Balor ending their rivalry in Hell in a Cell or the massive match between Brock Lesnar and Omos.
WWE have really done a great job of building excitement for this show and giving Wrestlemania the build it deserves. It feels like the most important Wrestling event of the year and that’s what it should feel like.
So well done to everyone in the creative team and all the talent that have made the build up to this show so special and bring on Wrestlemania 39!
