Rey Mysterio is one of the best performers alive inside a professional wrestling ring. His legacy is tough to match for any wrestler, and there is no doubt he will go down as one of the greats. He is in the twilight of his career and has much fun with the LWO. Mysterio recently won the United States championship from Austin Theory. It is always great to see a legend hold gold. However, I believe that Mysterio was the wrong person to end Theory’s reign.
Mysterio’s Legacy

Mysterio is a WWE Hall of Famer with notable achievements under his belt. He is a former WWE, World Heavyweight, and tag team champion. Mysterio has also had great matches with Kurt Angle, Eddie Guerrero, and his son Dominic Mysterio.
His accolades are extremely impressive, but what makes Mysterio unique is his ability to connect with an audience. The reason for this is that he plays the role of the underdog incredibly well. It means that the crowd can relate to him more than other superstars. Due to his size, he often seems to be at a disadvantage compared to his much taller opponents, which means the audience can visually see what he must overcome. All of this has resulted in him being nicknamed the ultimate underdog. Even though Mysterio will always hold a special place in WWE fans’ hearts, and he has proven hasn’t missed a step in the ring. He doesn’t feel right to hold the United States Championship because he doesn’t need it.
Why He Is The Wrong Person To Have The Belt

Mysterio doesn’t need the belt because he is already an established star. Furthermore, a mid-card is usually reserved for younger talent to help propel their career forward. For example, in recent years, a mid-card helped Theory and Gunther establish themselves as future stars. As previously stated, Mysterio is in the twilight of his career, which means he doesn’t need anything to cement himself as one of the biggest stars in the company today. You can argue that it should have gone to an up-and-coming talent such as Butch, Solo Sikoa, or LA Knight, as these performers could have used the belt to make a name for themselves in WWE.
Who Could Take It From Him

When considering who can take the belt away from Mysterio, many names come to mind. An obvious answer is Santos Escobar, who could turn on his mentor to challenge for the title. Yet, there are a lot of young superstars who could take the belt from the master of the 619. Grayson Waller is a young superstar who could succeed with the US title. Finally, you have a megastar on such a run right now that you can easily justify him having the belt.
