“And I dream broken dreams.
I make them come true.
I make them for you.”
After weeks of build-up, Drew McIntyre has officially turned heel and has created an alliance with the Judgement Day in the leadup to their War Games match.
It has been obvious for a while that Drew was destined for a heel turn and doing it right now is the best time to do it. So, not only am I going to explain why WWE did a perfect job with this, I’m also going to look ahead to the future and state how I believe a heel Drew should be booked after Survivor Series: War Games.
Why the build to Drew’s heel turn was perfect

So often we see face and heel turns in wrestling that just come out of nowhere, with no real reason or story behind them. This wasn’t the case with Drew’s heel turn though, this was a moment weeks in the making and each week just kept building the storyline towards Drew’s heel turn.
The inclusion of Main Event Jey Uso on RAW took the build up a gear, with the Scottish Warrior quite understandably being frustrated that the RAW roster just forgave and decided to trust Jey, even after everything The Bloodline put them through. I loved this because it’s how someone would genuinely react to that situation, why should Drew trust Jey after everything The Bloodline took from him?
McIntyre forming an alliance with Judgement Day for War Games makes complete sense. I don’t think Drew is a full-time member of the faction, but more that he is using their help to get back to the top and become a world champion again, because really that is Drew’s ultimate goal, to get his big title victory in front of fans.
How should Drew be booked going forward?

It’s clear that Drew’s obsession with getting his World Title win in front of fans is the driving force behind this heel turn. He had his Wrestlemania moment ruined by a global pandemic and when he finally gets his chance to win the title in front of a stadium full of fans in the UK, The Bloodline ruined it. He can’t let go of the past until he gets his big moment and that’s the key here.
So, with that in mind, after War Games he should definitely be going after Seth Rollins and his World Heavyweight Championship. Seth’s title run has been fantastic, I’ve really enjoyed it, but I think Drew needs to win here.
You can build towards this match leading up to the Royal Rumble and with the inclusion of the Judgement Day this time in their match, the numbers game is too much for Seth this time, and Drew wins the world title leading into Wrestlemania.
Overall Thoughts
I understand that a lot of people won’t be happy with Seth dropping the title before Wrestlemania, but I think this booking decision makes sense. Not only do we get a dominant heel champion in Drew, but you can also play into the storyline of the Judgement Day splitting up with this. Maybe right after Drew wins, Damian Priest tries to cash in his MITB contract, but Rhea Ripley stops him because of their alliance with McIntyre, then that starts the build to Priest’s eventual face turn.
The heel turn was a great idea overall, Drew’s character was growing stale after his loss to Gunther at Summerslam, so he needed something fresh and this new character is perfect. The Scottish Psychopath is back and I’m ready for it. Also… please bring back Broken Dreams WWE.
