Actor Freddie Prinze Jr. is a life-long wrestling fanatic. His love and appreciation for the sport runs so deep that he joined WWE as a writer in the late 2000s. He also currently hosts a wrestling podcast titled Wrestling With Freddie where he discusses his thoughts on today’s product while also sharing stories of his time working with Vince McMahon.
The industry has seen a lot of changes over the past few years. Whereas WWE hadn’t had legitimate competition for two decades, AEW rose to prominence by offering something different for wrestling fans. Since then, other promotions have started to take shape. Wrestlers EC3 and Adam Scherr are currently working on their Control Your Narrative promotion, while Women of Wrestling is set to make a comeback sometime this fall. Freddie has spoken recently about his ambition to open his own wrestling promotion and is currently working again to finance his dream.
This news was revealed when a fan on Twitter responded to the news of his aspiration. You can see the interaction between the two below.
Freddie could be taking a big risk in starting a promotion in the current climate, but with his industry knowledge, it could be something worth seeing. Only time will tell if his promotion gets off the ground, but if it does, it will probably be the size of ROH at most as he doesn’t have billions of dollars like Tony Khan did. For now, we wait to see what becomes of his dream.
