A former WWE veteran opened up about a shoot fight he had been in with none other than the Rock.
At his height in sports entertainment, The Rock had been one of the top-selling draws before transitioning to Hollywood. However, one didn’t get to the top of the mountain back in the day without making a few enemies.
WWE veteran Ahmed Johnson and The Rock had an onscreen and backstage rivalry in the 90s. Stories have been around for years about the two stars engaged in a physical altercation, but neither party ever elaborated.
That is until recently when Ahmed Johnson confirmed the fight happened while interviewing with Gregory Iron of Iron-On Wrestling. Johnson stated that during his rivalry with the Nation of Domination, the two had a disagreement on an upcoming match.
“Yeah, we had an altercation. He was running his mouth when he shouldn’t have been running it. He was saying some stuff and it wasn’t about me, but he was saying things that I don’t think he should have been saying about anybody. I didn’t like the fact that he was getting a little cocky,” Johnson explained. “We had a match coming up, a matter of fact, that same night. We were calling the match and I was willing to do his high spots but he wasn’t willing to do all mine. Then I got to the point where I said, ‘Well, look, when we get in the ring, we can just get it on in the ring, we can settle it in the ring.’ And then we got into a little altercation there.” (H/T Thirstyfornews.com)
There have been other perspectives on the fight given over the years, one of significance being from Bruce Pritchard. While discussing the altercation on his Something to Wrestle podcast, he saw things go down differently.
According to Bruce, Ahmed had been grumbling about something which led to the Rock offering to throw down with him. Ahmed allegedly backed down during the fight and that there was no one running in to break things up.
Prichard also described a similar altercation between Ahmed and D-Low Brown, which the larger star would come to regret. D-Low is historically a tough individual and was likely not willing to lose to the head-strong Ahmed.
