Jay and Mark Briscoe are one of the most well known, decorated tag teams in the world on the indies right now. They have cemented their legacy within Ring of Honor, calling the company their home for many years. However, the duo has seemingly never been able to reach a mainstream audience due to a history of homophobic comments from Jay Briscoe.

Recently, rumors began swirling that the brothers were headed to AEW after the hiatus of ROH. However, it was reported that WarnerMedia had put an end to any hope that the Brisoce Brothers could potentially sign with AEW after the Tweets resurfaced.

“It should be stated that we’re not even sure of the interest on All Elite Wrestling’s part, but if was confirmed to us by WarnerMedia sources that a person of influence in the company did not want the duo signed to AEW, specifically due to Jay Briscoe’s homophobic tweets from 2013.” (H/T NoDQ.com)

The tag team had been feuding over social media and on the indies with FTR. Fans hoped that the feud could potentially continue in AEW, but that does not seem as if it will happen anytime soon.

Briscoe was recently a guest on the Battleground Podcast. He discussed the WarnerMedia report, then addressed his past remarks on the show stating that he regretted the comments that he made years ago.

“I want to say, thank you to the people who really know…we get labelled as homophobes. I put out a stupid tweet nine years ago, the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious sh*t I’ve ever done. I don’t want anybody, from any walk of life, to feel like they can’t care for the Briscoes because I promise we love everybody. We love everybody and we just want to go out there and be pro wrestlers and give the best match that we can. I said some dumb sh*t a long time ago, I apologised for it and I’ll apologise for it again. It was stupid. I feel like now there are people who look at us like, ‘we can’t cheer for them because they hate a certain group of people.’ We don’t hate nobody. We love everybody. We’re just some country boys. I thought I was taking a stand for the Lord back in the day.” (H/T ringsidenews.com)

This isn’t the first time that Briscoe has apologised for his comments either. Would you ever like to see the Briscoe Brothers in AEW? Leave us a comment below.
