Wrestling Republic’s Ben Allison took to twitter revealing the information he was given about how AEW could release CM Punk.
What Happened at AEW All Out?
AEW has had quite the public relations nightmare every since this year’s Labor Day weekend. The pay per view event Tony Khan had put on was overshadowed by the events that took place later on.
Issues took place in the AEW media scrum as well as what happened behind closed doors between CM Punk and multiple Executive Vice Presidents of the company.
At the time, then AEW World Champion CM Punk went on what could be considered a “planned” profanity filled rant about rumors and his current emotions.
What was the aftermath?
After CM Punk’s rant took place in the media scrum. A brawl took place within CM Punk’s locker room that caused Tony Khan to suspend parties involved. Those suspended wasn’t the newly crowned AEW champion but the newly crowned trios champions The Elite.
Tony Khan then opened the September 7th Dynamite announcing that both CM Punk and the Elite were stripped of their respective championships.
The AEW world championship was decided in a tournament with the finals at Grand Slam. The Trios Championships were awarded to Death Triangle the night of the announcement.
What can we expect to happen?
Currently with CM Punk on the injured shelf, we wont know if CM Punk will return to the company.
Ben Allison said in his exclusive update that:
EXCLUSIVE: Wrestling Republic have been told that as of right now the only way CM Punk could be released from AEW is if Tony Khan bought out his contract, including potential future merchandise earnings. Would be a ridiculous sum of money.
Ben Allison on Twitter
Tony Khan is not shy about his financial status as stated in his rant on the All Out Media Scrum.
It is currently up in the air on whether or not Tony Khan is going to bring CM Punk back in the future. But as first reported by Ben Allison, it will require a large “sum of money” from Tony Khan’s pockets.
