On SmackDown Edge celebrated his 25th anniversary as a WWE superstar during his homecoming back to Toronto, Canada.
On the August 18th edition of Friday Night SmackDown the WWE Universe celebrated Edge’s 25th anniversary of being a WWE Superstar.
Many superstars appeared in a video package made for Edge’s 25 year anniversary. Superstars thanked Edge for his legacy and contribution to their careers and the company.
Some superstars that were shown include Becky Lynch, Kurt Angle, John Cena, Rey Mysterio, and more.
With Edge’s homecoming to Toronto Canada and his anniversary celebration he wanted to have a match with someone he has worked with for years but never had a match with.
On the August 11th edition of Friday Night SmackDown Edge asked Sheamus to have a singles match. Of course Sheamus accepted and both were extremely excited.
Edge has previously stated that this match would be his last on his current WWE contract. Sheamus and Edge’s singles match was the main event of the August 18th edition of Friday Night SmackDown.
The match was fast paced and hard-hitting. The WWE Universe was extremely excited for this match and were on the edge of their seats the entire time.
Edge countered the Brogue Kick and hit Sheamus with a Spear. Edge then gained pinfall and won the match.
After SmackDown went off air Edge directly spoke to the Toronto fans. Edge stated “What I can say is that this is my last one in front of y’all, I don’t think I can make it another full run to get here again for a match. I’m just being honest with you, but don’t let that be a downer because, man, what an experience you all gave me.
He continues by saying “I will never forget it. I will never forget it. When I’m 84 years old, and I don’t remember much, I’m damn sure going to remember this. Thank you.”
It is not definite that Edge is retiring he is simply saying it would be the last time competing in Toronto, Canada.
