As the son of the great masked luchador Rey Mysterio takes the spotlight in the WWE, it seems like he is hoping for a name change along the way.
Ever since Dominik Mysterio debuted in the WWE in 2020, there has been talk of him wrestling with a mask on, much like his father and uncle did. Dominik has not only adapted his fathers luchador style of wrestling, but wrestles under the Mysterio name. Although, Dominik has recently stated he hopes to not wrestle just under the Mysterio family name, but wrestle under his fathers name Rey Mysterio.

In an Interview with Fox Sports WWE Analyst Ryan Satin, Dominik was asked if he plans to one day wear the mask. He responded with “Most definitely.” He then said, “I think the long goal here, the endgame, is to eventually take over the Rey Mysterio name. That’s the legacy within it. He’s Rey Mysterio. It’s only right to make a Jr. Traditionally in Lucha culture, and in Hispanic culture, that’s tradition. That’s what you do. I kind of just showed up and Dom Mysterio organically happened. Everything happened so fast.”
Not only is Dominik’s goal to wrestle underneath a mask, but he says his long-term goal is to be known as Rey Mysterio Jr in the squared circle. It seems this goal is more long-term because Rey is still active in the WWE. Most likely, the name change of Dominik will occur once Rey decides to hang up the mask and retire.
