AEW Star Claudio Castagnoli has opened up on the reasons why he chose to sign with AEW, claiming he would be a better fit there.
Claudio Castagnoli- formerly known as Cesaro in WWE-has been on a hell of a ride recently.
The former WWE United States and Tag Team Champion made his debut at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event, replacing Bryan Danielson and defeating Zack Sabre Jr in a very good match.
He would then move on to pick up an impressive victory for the Blackpool Combat Club at Blood & Guts and made his singles debut by defeating Jake Hager on the latest episode of Dynamite.
Now, just some weeks after his arrival to All Elite Wrestling, Castagnoli has revealed the main reasons that pushed him to sign with AEW instead of re-signing with WWE.
While speaking at NBC Sports Boston’s ‘Ten Count Wrestling podcast’, Castagnoli said:
“I’ve been following AEW for a while. And when it came time for me to just kind of take a step back and look, I felt that I was a better fit at AEW, and there was a lot more for me to do with AEW when it comes to challenges, when it came to people I want to work with.
There are just so many people there that I haven’t wrestled either at all or in a very, very long time. So, I was kind of like, ‘That’s what I want to do. That’s what I’ll have fun doing.’” (H/T WrestlingInc)
He continued by addressing that he felt that his time at WWE was up, which led to him aiming for the next move.
“I always kind of felt that whenever it was time to move, I’ve moved on. It was the same before when I was in Ring of Honor. I felt like, ‘Now, it’s time to take the step towards WWE.’ That’s what I did, and now, I was like, ‘Okay, now I feel like it’s time to make the next step,’ and I did, and I’m very happy I did.” (H/T WrestlingInc)
Claudio Castagnoli is currently scheduled to face ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham at the coming ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view.
