AJ Styles has revealed that he feels the new World Heavyweight Championship feels secondary to Roman Reigns’ Undisputed Championship.
In a recent interview with the New York Post, WWE superstar AJ Styles expressed his thoughts on the controversy surrounding the creation of a new World Championship and whether it should be considered secondary. Styles is set to face off against Seth Rollins at WWE Night of Champions to determine the inaugural holder of the title, exclusively designated for Monday Night Raw.
Styles raised a valid point, questioning the significance of the new championship in light of Roman Reigns’ dominance. Reigns, who currently holds the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship, has been drafted to SmackDown, leaving the Raw brand without a world title. Styles pointed out that if both the Raw and SmackDown championships are held by Reigns, it becomes difficult to argue against the secondary status of the newly minted belt.
The WWE veteran acknowledged the circumstances that led to the creation of the championship but emphasized the importance of making the best out of the situation. He stated, “Is it a secondary?Well if the Raw championship is held by Roman, the SmackDown championship is held by Roman, then how can you argue that it’s not? We had to make a new championship because Roman holds them. If we make the best of it, and if and when Roman does challenge [for the new title], we beat the brakes off of him, whomever it might be, then we’ll see what title’s secondary.”
AJ Styles Reaction To Roman Reigns Part Time Schedule
Styles, known for his exceptional work ethic, also expressed his desire to establish himself as the “workhorse” of WWE by consistently appearing on television and delivering memorable performances. He acknowledged that while Reigns’ reduced schedule may have its benefits, being the World Heavyweight champion requires unwavering commitment and a willingness to fulfill the responsibilities associated with the title.
The esteemed wrestler, who recently returned to the ring following a four-month absence due to a broken ankle, held no ill will towards Reigns working a lighter schedule, and commended him for achieving the status of a superstar. Styles stated, “I’m not mad at him. I told him, ‘if I could do it I would, but I’m not Roman Reigns.'”
Furthermore, Styles eagerly anticipates a potential rematch with Reigns, asserting that it is long overdue and expressing his desire to revisit their previous encounters.
While the controversy surrounding the creation of the new World Championship lingers, AJ Styles remains determined to prove his worth and establish the prestige of the title through his dedication and exceptional performances. As Night of Champions approaches, fans eagerly await the clash between Styles and Rollins, hopeful for an exhilarating encounter that will leave a lasting impact on the landscape of WWE.
