This was a fine episode of Rampage. A couple of stories were moved forward but the matches weren't anything special. The highlight was the main event between the Blackpool Combat Club and the Gates of Agony due to in-ring action. The low point was the Sakura-Blue match. Not much of a story there and the action wasn’t anything to write home about.
None of the matches reached the level of great. The show structure was mostly good but the show didn’t exactly build up to the main event. A couple of stories were advanced but nothing exceptional. The atmosphere was fine but not fantastic. Production was good but the show didn't have a theme to set it apart from other episodes of Rampage.
On the October 13th episode of AEW Rampage: the Hardys and Brother Zay face the team formerly known as the Jericho Appreciation Society. Will the tension between Daniel Garcia and Matt Menard hinder their effort? Jay Lethal takes on Trent Beretta of the Best Friends. Sky Blue goes up against Emi Sakura. And in the main event, Wheeler Yuta and Claudio Castagnoli take on the Gates of Agony.
ABOVE AVERAGE the Hardys and Brother Zay vs Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia:
The former JAS spent the early part of the match ganging up on Matt Hardy. Later, as the Hardys seized momentum, Jake Hager interfered by knocking Jeff Hardy off the turnbuckle to prevent a Swanton Bomb. In the end, the Hardys and Brother Zay fell to the former JAS as Daniel Garcia pinned Zay.
Results: Matt Menard, Angelo Parker, and Daniel Garcia by Pinfall
Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars
Jay White mocked Penta El Cero Miedo for not having any championships.
GOOD Jay Lethal vs Trent Beretta:
Jay Lethal has his eyes on the ROH World Title and let that be known to the camera. Talking to the camera cost Lethal as it gave Beretta a shot to get back in the match. Later, Beretta went for a cross-body but missed and went face-first into the ropes. After failing to win via submission, Lethal finally scored the win via a Lethal Injection.
Results: Jay Lethal by Pinfall via Lethal Injection
Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3 Stars
Santana and Ortiz came face to face backstage and agreed to settle their differences with a match.
ABOVE AVERAGE Emi Sakura vs Sky Blue:
Sakura hit Sky Blue with a nasty crossbody with Blue against the steps. Momentum shifted when Emi Sakura had a submission hold on Blue but Sakura’s shoulders were down so she broke the hold. Blue hit Sakura with a DDT and finally finished the match with a Code Blue.
Results: Sky Blue by Pinfall via Code Blue
Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 2.75 Stars
GOOD Wheeler Yuta vs Claudio Castagnoli vs Gates of Agony:
Gates of Agony took things outside the ring where they focused on the back of Wheeler Yuta. Later in the match, Wheeler Yuta fought off a double team with help from Claudio. In the end, Claudio propelled Yuta off the turnbuckle into a splash to pick up the win for the BCC.
Results: Claudio Castagnoli and Wheeler Yuta by Pinfall via Splash
Matt Cookson WR Star Rating – 3 Stars
