Tony Khan has criticized WWE’s Crown Jewel show in Saudi Arabia, claims the Northeast region of the US is pro wrestling’s real crown jewel.
After having experienced some heated weeks, All Elite Wrestling is still trying to move on from the recent scandal generated of the backstage brawl between CM Punk and The Elite after the All Out Media Scrum.
Even though the controversy around the situation has finally seemed to calmed down, AEW President, CEO and General Manager Tony Khan has been facing a lot of criticism recently.
Regarding this, it is no secret that Tony Khan has criticized WWE in many different occasions, while also praising AEW’s product whenever he could. However, after shooting at WWE for hosting two shows during AEW’s All Out weekend, Tony Khan has some more strong words for the rival company.
During a recent talk with News 12, Khan took the opportunity to throw shade at WWE for the company’s Crown Jewel Premium-Live-Event in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while also praising the United States’ Northeast region.
When consulted about the huge number of AEW shows in that region, Tony Khan said:
“You’re right. We’re running a lot of great shows around the Northeast. It’s so many great wrestling markets in one geographic region. I’ll say it [it’s] the crown jewel of wrestling markets…the real crown jewel of wrestling markets, not some BS overseas in Saudi Arabia. The real crown jewel, New York City, is where you want to be.”
Tony Khan Claims New York City Is Pro Wrestling’s Real Crown Jewel
In addition to what he had stated before, Tony Khan added that he considers New York City to be the real Crown Jewel in all of professional wrestling. When explaining his point, Khan said:
“The real crown jewel, New York City, is where you want to be. Just New York City alone is a great market. It’s surrounded by so many great markets that are within driving distance. There are so many great fans up here.”
