AAA’s January 17th debut on Fox was a mixed show. The very limited amount of wrestling and the inability for non-Spanish speakers to access the content of the promos (a problem on a show with an English broadcast team and no live subtitling available) made this show very frustrating to watch. It was uplifted however by some interesting developments, a good main event and an electric crowd. Much improvement is needed in future shows to keep people coming back, but there was just enough on this show to keep a smidge of intrigue, not to mention a crowd that carried much of it to something more interesting than its action suggested.
AAA brings a huge number one contenders match in its debut on Fox! El Grande Americano faces the newly heel El Hijo Del Vikingo, with the looming threat of the towering Omos standing over proceedings!

AAA January 17th 2026 Highs
By far the biggest pro of AAA’s debut on Fox was the electric crowd that carried the show from start to finish. From Rey Mysterio’s opening promo in which the crowd seemed fully locked in to the huge love given to El Grande Americano in the main event, the crowd really did make the event. Hopefully the crowds can maintain this energy, which will require in my view a better quality of product than we were given tonight, but nonetheless I think it is a very positive sign.
While I do not speak Spanish and therefore was not cognisant to what was being said in many of them, the promo segments seemed fiery and very well delivered. Rey, Penta, Dom and Wagner all seemed to deliver entertaining segments for the live crowd.
The latter of these segments in particular had an exciting finale with the return of Santos Escobar. Escobar looked awesome and had a great moment with El Hijo Del Wagner Jr to set up a future Latin American Title Match. A very exciting shot in the arm for the show.
AAA January 17th 2026 Lows
The biggest frustration from this show came in almost none of the promo segments being translated by commentary from Spanish to English. Now if I was watching the show with a Spanish broadcast team then of course I would not expect promos to be translated for my own comfort as a native English speaker. However, when you put as much effort into making this show accessible to English speakers as WWE have, it is baffling to not then go the extra step of helping us absorb the promo content, especially when it took up the majority of the show. As a result I couldn’t tell you how many exciting storyline developments there may have been as I didn’t understand any of it, which for a show marketed at a US audience I think is a problem.
The wrestling suffered from just being way too short. I enjoyed the opening tag match, but with only one match over 5 minutes and only 25% of the show being actual wrestling, it felt like the wrestling was a major afterthought. Even the one clearly good match in the main event never quite hit the heights it could’ve, with Vikingo and Americano delivering a solid but predictable encounter with an ending you could see from space.
Finally, a small but to me significant point. While I cannot confirm that the promo package put together for Dominik Mysterio utilised AI, its design certainly gave that appearance. I hope that isn’t the case, but just a reminder that utilising generative AI for something that could easily be done with a designer is immoral and a sin on any show that utilises it.
