This week’s Smackdown was the go home show for this year’s Royal Rumble. The show saw Rey Mysterio take on Karrion Kross, Brock Lesnar give Bobby Lashley a F5 and Kevin Owens face Solo Sikoa.

It’s now time for my 5 things we learnt article. If you haven’t read my previous 5 things we learnt articles, this is how it works. After each RAW, Smackdown and WWE Premium Live Event, I will release an article which is basically just the five big things that happened on the show and my opinion on it.

Hopefully I will be able to do these articles for AEW as well, but there is only so much wrestling I can watch each week so, at the moment I will only be making these articles for WWE.

So, here are 5 things we learnt from this episode of Smackdown.

    5. Rey Mysterio got momentum heading into the Royal Rumble match

This week’s Smackdown kicked off with Rey Mysterio taking on Karrion Kross following weeks of build up to this match. The match finished with Rey getting the win thanks to a quick pin. Kross was visibly furious after the match.

The match was an entertaining way to kick off the show and Rey was the right winner here. The actual rivalry has been good, so I don’t mind if it continues, which I expect it will. Kross should win the overall feud, to get himself back on track.

Rey has been great in the build up to this match, I like how WWE aren’t just brushing over his troubles with Dominik. The stuff on Thanksgiving and Christmas where Rhea and Dominik showed up to the Mysterio household was gold, I expect that Rey will probably eliminate him from the Rumble that will lead to a big father and son match at Wrestlemania.
