The news of Cain Velasquez’s arrest made waves after he was taken into custody at the end of February. According to reports, the former UFC Champion had chased down a man (Harry Goularte) who had allegedly molested a younger relative of his while at daycare. Velasquez opened fire at the suspect in his vehicle but missed him, hitting his father-in-law nonfatally. Velasquez was arrested for attempted murder, and on March 7, the MMA fighter was denied bail.
For the first time since his arrest, Cain has now commented on the events that transpired on February 28. He posted a message of his gratitude to all who had supported him in Spanish from his official Twitter account, which was then translated to English.
“To everyone that has expressed your support, my family and I will never be able to thank you enough. From the bottom of our hearts and the depths of our souls, we are forever grateful for your love. Your selfless gestures and kind words have given me strength in my darkest times. This story is complex and slowly unraveling as we speak. To the true victims of this case, may God give you the strength to come forward. Though it is most difficult to relive the pain that has happened to you, in speaking the truth, justice will be served, and your own true healing will start. I will never stop helping or loving my community and all of you. Thank you for loving me.”
The former WWE star’s last wrestling appearance before his arrest was at Lucha Libre AAA’s TripleMania Regia in December of last year. The fighter-turned wrestler was set to make more appearances for the promotion in 2022 before his arrest. As things stand, he is currently facing up to 10 charges.
